Jubilee Orchards is hard at work converting our entire blueberry orchard to organic over the next 30 months. Today, we have 15 acres that are already fully USDA Certified Organic, with an additional 35 acres expected to be certified by 2022. We are eager to eliminate all chemicals, pesticides, and herbicides from our farm as soon as possible.
Organic farming practices help reduce the toxic load on our bodies, the soil, and ecosystems. Rather than relying on man-made chemicals to keep crops healthy, organic agriculture uses biological pest control methods, compost or aged manure fertilization, and crop rotation. Organic farming, while challenging, is in keeping with our desire to grow the healthiest fruit with the highest standards of environmental stewardship.
In addition to keeping pollutants off the orchard, organic farming practices help promote biodiversity. Take a trip out to Jubilee Orchards this spring, and you’ll notice the buzzing of bees, the chirping of birds, and the fluttering of butterflies in the fields. And if you’re lucky, you might even spot a ladybug or two! Those are the sights and sounds of nature providing a helping hand to our blueberry bushes. We rely on these critters to pollinate our crops and keep harmful pests away, naturally!
We’re excited to have you join us at our annual U-Pick Blueberry events this harvest season to pick fresh blueberries (dates coming soon!) and experience organic farming firsthand. Join our newsletter to be the first to know about news and events at Jubilee Orchards, and be sure to keep a lookout for Jubilee Blues at your local grocer this spring!
